SFC LogoWHY STAND FIRM?

The Standing Firm Against Family Violence Campaign (Standing Firm Campaign) aims to raise awareness on the impacts of family violence on victims/ survivors of family violence in Koori communities.

Family violence statistics reveal that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are five times more likely to be assaulted by a family member than other women. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are more than twice as likely to be a victim of family violence. At FVPLS Victoria, 90 per cent of our client base is women and children.

The Standing Firm Campaign is calling on individuals and community networks to commit to taking action for themselves, their families and their communities against family violence.

We are suggesting 101 ways to Stand Firm Against Family Violence and find how you can make the difference and prevent family violence.

The Standing Firm campaign is part of FVPLS Victoria's commitment to engage with community and organisations to improve access to justice for victims/survivors and reduce vulnerability to family violence within Koori communities. We will also host a national conference in 2012, focusing upon policy issues that impact upon family violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
